Why ESVAGT?
Internet onboard
In the future, it will be easier for ESVAGT’s employees at sea to keep in touch with their loved ones at home because of the implementation of high-speed internet from STARLINK.
Open traineeships
ESVAGT takes great responsibility in the education of the next generation of seafarers – and therefore, there are more than 200 open traineeships in ESVAGT.
Life at sea told by a ship assistant
On ESVAGT’s vessels, there is also a completely normal everyday life. But how does it work? Able Ship Assistant Louis answers the questions you may have about life at sea.
Enhanced internet on ESVAGT’s vessels
Communication with friends and family has improved a lot, says ESVAGT’s Chief Engineer, Jørgen Mathiassen, about the new STARLINK internet, which ensures that there will be high-speed internet on ESVAGT’s vessels now and in the future.
”Life before STARLINK internet was sometimes a test of patience.”
This is the immediate reaction from ESVAGT’s Chief Engineer, Jørgen Mathiassen, when asked about the new high-speed internet being rolled out on ESVAGT’s more than 40 vessels.
And he is absolutely right.
Life at sea has for many years been associated with an unstable internet connection, but that is now a thing of the past for ESVAGT’s more than 1200 offshore employees.
Since mid-July 2023, internet from STARLINK has been implemented on the vast majority of the vessels in the fleet, ensuring that ESVAGT’s crew members will have an easier connection to their loved ones in the future.
This is something that Jørgen Mathiassen and the rest of the crew on ESVAGT Cornelia greatly appreciate.
”It is possible for me to send pictures home, so they can see how we are doing out here. They are very happy to have the opportunity to follow along a bit. And then you can use Messenger with video, which is a big plus – especially for those with small children,” he says.
ESVAGT CORNELIA
Colleague on ESVAGT Cornelia, Able Ship Assistant, Frederik Wendelboe, especially recognizes the last point. The new high-speed internet allows him to maintain better contact with his daughter at home.
”I can make video calls with my daughter, where both of us have a clear picture. It means a lot to me – and certainly also for her. The new internet has done a lof of good things,” he adds.
ESVAGT began equipping the vessels with internet from STARLINK in mid-July 2023.
ESVAGT – a safe place for education
ESVAGT is a good and safe place to start a career at sea. ESVAGT makes a great effort to train its seafarers from the ground, so they develop through the system and acquire a lot of valuable skills – both socially and professionally.
In a training position at ESVAGT, one has ample opportunity to apply school theory in practice while gaining new tools that contribute to becoming a competent Able Ship Assistant, Navigator or Engineer.
On ESVAGT’s vessels, there is an exciting learning environment supported by a Training Officer. Onboard, there is also a young community – and combined with the routine and experience that the older crew members have accumulated over many years, this makes ESVAGT the perfect place to start a career at sea.
Today, ESVAGT has more than 200 Trainee positions distributed among Ordinary Ship Assistants as well as marine- and Deck Officer Apprentice.
Life at sea – a versatile everyday life
”Two days are rarely the same,” says Louis Thorkildsen, who has been with ESVAGT since 2019.
He started in the company as an Ordinary Ship Assistant and is now an Able Ship Assistant on ESVAGT Bergen.
In the videos below, he talks about life at sea, the most fun tasks, being away from home for four weeks, why he chose ESVAGT – and much more.
